Academic Programs
International Baccalaureate Program
The Middle Years Programme (MYP) is a highly competitive program, which provides
a framework of academic challenge and life skills for students in grades 6-10.
Accredited by the International Baccalaureate Organization, this international
curriculum offers an educational approach that embraces yet transcends traditional
school subjects and emphasizes the development of the whole person. The International
Baccalaureate (IB) Program is an internationally recognized curriculum that offers
11th and 12th grade students an opportunity to earn the IB Diploma. The program
is offered in over 800 public and private secondary schools in more than 100 countries
around the world.
To earn the IB Diploma, students complete and test in six IB
subjects: write an extended essay of independent research guided by a faculty
mentor, complete 150 hours of creative, action, and service activities (CAS);
and participate in a critical thinking course called Theory of Knowledge. This
advanced, comprehensive program of study offers an integrated approach to learning
across the disciplines with an emphasis on meeting the challenges of living and
working in a global, technological society. Students who take IB courses without
completing the entire program may earn IB certificates by testing in selected
IB courses.
Magnet General Program
The Magnet General Program consists of talented and gifted students from across the city. Students take part in a demanding college preparatory program, which allows them to take their place in the country's leading universities and careers.
Specialized Services Department/Program
This program works closely with the Magnet Program to ensure that all disabled students are integrated in the regular educational setting to the maximum extent possible. We are all working together in making the students of today the leaders of tomorrow.
